Within the framework of the Kosovo Youth Participation – KYP project during the month of June, the project team together with implementing partner SHL-Kosova have held eight: Informative Sessions on project opportunities for disadvantaged youth, in municipalities targeted by the project: Deçan/Dečani, Fushë Kosova/Kosovo Polje, Gjakova/Đakovica, Junik/Junik, Obiliq/Obilić, Peja/Peć, Rahovec/Orahovac and Suharekë/Suva Reka.
The aim of these sessions was for young people age (15 – 25) to be informed of the opportunities the project will provide for each of them, respectively, to increase their active involvement in decision-making processes and professional capacities. The informative sessions were organized in close cooperation with municipal officials and local youth nongovernmental organizations and the same were held in municipal assembly hall spaces.
The sessions with young people aimed at creating youth groups that will be actively involved throughout the project. The project will improve the knowledge of young people from selected rural areas and small towns on issues such as human rights, representation, activism, youth mobilization, and advocacy techniques with the engagement of field experts. All of these will have practical implementation through advocacy initiatives to authorities and institutions, to improve the position of young people and to increase their participation in decision-making at the local and central level.
Furthermore, the project will work towards increasing professional skills for employment and activating young people for social engagement and further develop their knowledge of cross-cultural dialogue, preventing disinformation and strengthening of gender and/or ethnic stereotypes.
